if you want the retro experience use MATE (beware that 1. Its slowly becoming a dnb and 2. The really old themes no longer work because GTK2 themes are displayed with THOSE FUCKING ADWAITA VISUALS THAT I HATE) or Trinity if your distro supports it, xfce kinda looks retro too, idk about kde plasma
