why did we move from removable disk storage to shitty usb drives? (does not matter if its flash drive, ssd or hdd, usb sucks.)

CDs and DVDs sucked
the discs were easily scratched and the readers were prone to failure

that depends. if you were a dumb nigger than sure but if you actually took care of the discs it was a pretty flawless experience. readers aren't prone to failure. it was mostly software glitches and bad discs.

it really depends on the brand of disc. i bought some old stock 4.7gb dvds from ritek recently, and every single one of them was faulty. i have 640mb cds from 20 years ago, and those still work fine. regardless of brand quality, writable discs are less durable than the ones that are mastered industrially with molding machines. a writable disc has to be soft enough for a laser to etch the data into it - or at least that was the case. now we have M discs made out of stone that last 1000 years and optical drives with lasers powerful enough to write to them.
