if you're not a tinkerer, i recommend installing an UCUNTU based distribution. you can install ucuntu LTS, mint, or KDE neon. i like KDE neon personally, because it's very beautiful. they are all based on ucuntu

While most steam games are playable on linux nowadays you'll have to tinker around in order to make many of them work, and there's a few popular games that aren't available such as battlefield 6 or gta online. Also, you might have problems installing mods or playing multiplayer in some.
If you have a lot of free time to fix any issues that can happen while gaming in linux then it's fine but otherwise just stick to windows
