Should I stop being a slf and switch to wayland? I use awesomewm rn but I really like how niri wm looks. I've heard tales it's le spyware + the switch will take several hours for me which I could have spent on better things

either you stick with doing the bare minimum, or you just steal configs from someone else and you don't have to use a wm either gnome is pretty nice out of the box

im on wayland and an nvidia card it works nicely for me and the only issues i've had usually get fixed by either updating or forcing xwayland but those issues barely happen and the upsides are more worth it for me imo

think i also had issues on gnome with mpv but not on hyprland not sure if they're fixed upstream yet i haven't tried to debug it because i just swapped to another player

I'd say that the biggest problem in the wayland world is the lack of a user-friendly bar.
I know about eww, quickshell, and waybar, but all those are shitty imo
