Looks a lot like windows, easy to use out of the box, least likely to use the terminal in this one

is it good for potato computers?

 β„–19895[Quote]

Yes, pretty much any linux distro is lighter than windows. But what hardware is exactly in your computer?

every distro is the same. the only differences are init system, package manager, and how new your packages are. you can still, like on windows, download the newest versions of programs from the internet. with this in mind, i recommend installing ubuntu or mint. both are well supported, and who really gives a fuck at the end of the day?

It's not a potato at all compared to a lot of computers I've seen, it's just windows 11 'aping and datamining

if you care for a more lightweight experience, try XFCE as well

 β„–19900[Quote]

>>19899
XFCE is just a desktop environment which is just taskbar and utilities and it's very lightweight in RAM

 β„–19902[Quote]

Try qubes os

 β„–19904[Quote]

Dont use linux if you aren't a software developer or hacker

 β„–19968[Quote]

>>19884 (OP)
Use linux if you are managing servers or doing serious work that you want to hide from the government, otherwise there is no point

Learn about developing software and then use linux

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called β€œLinux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called β€œLinux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

i only really want linux because ive heard it offers a lightweight and casual experience. it can use the sharty, play snes games, and play old pc games which is all i really care about. i just need a second device to optimize my focus and workflow since ive been using my work computer for the sharty which distracts me and makes me a lazy bum who procrastinates all day

this. i mean, even my local CNC machine uses linux so its not like you need to be an epix h4xxor to use some OS. gatekeeping stuff is troon behavior.
