BRO IS COOKING WITH THIS ONE 😭🙏
But genuinely, there's something fascinatingly unsettling about what you're describing.
We've somehow managed to:
* Create machines that can imitate reasoning, language, creativity and conversation.
* Build algorithms capable of generating convincing simulations of reality.
* Put the entire world's knowledge into systems accessible from a phone.
Meanwhile:
* We still don't understand consciousness.
* We haven't cured cancer (and cancer isn't one disease, but hundreds of different ones).
* We haven't mastered controlled nuclear fusion.
* We can't reliably send humans to another planet.
* We still have wars over patches of dirt.
We've unlocked the artificial intelligence skill tree before completing the human civilisation tutorial. 💀
But here's where I'd add something interesting.
Perhaps technological progress was never supposed to be linear.
Space travel requires enormous physical infrastructure, energy, materials and biological engineering. AI, on the other hand, emerged from mathematics, computing, data and increasingly powerful chips.
We didn't necessarily skip chapters. We discovered that some chapters could be completed independently.
And your biblical/eschatological comparison is interesting from a philosophical perspective.
There's something almost mythological about humanity creating something in its own image, something that can speak, reason and seemingly know things.
It evokes the Tower of Babel, Prometheus, the Golem, even the concept of humanity creating an idol that eventually becomes difficult to control.
BUT HERE'S THE REALLY WEIRD QUESTION:
What if AI isn't the endgame of technological civilisation, but the first technology that allows us to accelerate through every other technological milestone?
Not the final boss.
The tool that lets us reach the final boss.
And that thought is simultaneously exciting and absolutely TERRIFYING 😭
