Being a game dev isn't too hard. If you just watch a few tutorials, stick to a game engine for a while, pirate game engine software (believe me it's worth it), make small shitty games on a consistent basis, and just keep at it regularly, you'll be pretty good at game dev. It's not as hard as you would think, especially for 2D games, and believe me, start with 2D games first because 3D involves much more complicated math.
I absolutely believe you can do this fellow 'teen so don't feel like shit because you've got options. If I have to say though, you'll only start getting good at game development after 2 years of consistent development work, or at least it was similar to that for me. Once you make a ton of small shit games for 2 years, you should move on to a decently sized game that you can charge money for.
That's my advice, it may not be the best, but hopefully you feel encouraged.

Thing is after doing this first year, I realized programming isn't for me. I wanna be the lead director (Story, world building, audio/level design) and maybe find a small team like a modeler/animator and a programmer. Would that be a viable option? I say lead dev because I've dedicated the last 2-3 years writing a game. This game is my only living purpose.
