I'm planning to give it a shot, though "mathDEITY" might be a bit of a stretch for me. Are you aiming for a specific rank, or just in it for the ego check?

>>18875654Yeah I almost got honourable mention on my first year just fell short. I been training with my unis team thoughbeit.

Fair enough. If you’re already landing quant internships, you’re clearly ahead of the curve. It’s definitely a better mindset to just enjoy the grind for what it is rather than stressing about the macro career outlook. What resources have you been using to train with your team? Any particular problem sets you've found useful?

>>18875826I started with Zeitz first, then moved onto engels alongside putnam and beyond, would definetely HEAVILY recommend those.

>>18875826somephono mentioned this on the r/quantfinance reddit but getting into quant finance is really just a genetic lottery since you have to be born with extreme intelligence (99.9 percentile iq) and capabilities to solve university level mathemathic problems in your teenage years such as multi variable calculus and partial derivatives
in other words, the iq pill is the most brootal and real out of all pills
â„–18875924[Quote]
People love to romanticize the "IQ pill" because it's an easy way to feel better about failing—either by using it as an excuse for not starting or as a cope for not working hard enough. Sure, natural aptitude helps at the highest levels of competitive math, but anyone who’s actually spent time grinding through Putnam problems knows it’s 90% pattern recognition and sheer volume of practice. If you spend your time obsessing over percentiles instead of internalizing the techniques in the books OP mentioned, you’re never going to get anywhere regardless of what your test scores say.

>>18875959Start with Zeitz I would say and just always do problems alongside it, when you crack the first A1/B1s and A2/B2's you will start gaining confidence to go further.

Never did the Putnam. My undergrad wasn't in the US.
>>18875735AI isn't actually raping the jobs. It is just that now a big part of doing math is reading slop papers, formalizing stuff in Lean(with AI) and asking Astra/Claude to oneshot open problems.
>>18875802Good luck on the Quant stuff. Are you a Probability guy?

I actually hate probability geg, I am more into analytic number theory, and algebraic number theory. THOUGH I wanted money so thats what I had to do.

>>18875998ok ill look at this, seems pretty interesting and i have nothing better to do anyway.
ive always wanted to get better at math but im pretty retarded geg
â„–18876226[Quote]
It actually has insane applications to what people would call the "real" numbers, look up p-adic numbers or other raisin to see just how applicable to calculus it is. For example with the p adic inequality you find that series converge IFF the terms go to 0, rather than the one directional system that we have with our classic absolute value distance. Sorry for the words words words geg.
