Hello /soy/, I need some opinions and advice for a project I wanted to do for some time now.
I want to make an animation (series or singular) about weird creatures living in nature and going through episodic adventures. I mostly thought about them being birds or mammals, but I also considered making a few aquatic creatures to broaden my horizons and add some variety.
<
I planned for it to have a "retro-aesthetic". The method I use is SNCA, so I spoilered it, feel free to read if you care:
It's pixel art, but every 8x8 pixel tile can only have 2 colors at a time. Depending on the palette I use, I could be restricted to either 16 colors or 8 "bright" and 7 "dark" colors (one less color for dark because both bright and dark contain black). I can make frames relatively fast, but it looks choppy. It doesn't look shit when done competently or creatively, and I already made a test animation using this technique.
I was thinking of using more natural and muted colors (like the ones on the Commodore 64) to avoid unnecessary stimulation and therefore attract a calmer audience, at least in theory.
<
The reason why I want to do this is because I noticed a hole in the market when it comes to animation like that. Something that is just /calm/ and not that focused on "deep lore" or other bullshit. I find a lot of "indie" animation to be inaccessible to basically anyone that isn't terminally online. Also because it's just fun.
As a bonus, I could try adding a 'jak into one of the episodes if there's enough interest
<inb4 troonslop
I know, that's what I'm trying to mitigate.

6600 htsms complain about troonslop but in reality you're either gonna get a schizo fanbase or not and it feels like it's impossible to tell from the actual artstyle or anything

it doesn't help that technically sharty is part of the schizo fanbase cohort…

>>18845289You may be right here, I just don't want to be beloved by people who will crush my work under inflated egos
>>18845307Also correct, but there's no good alternative. Imageboards are surprisingly diverse considering the ideologies of people using them, so it's not a black-and-white matter.
<As an aside, I managed to export what I was working on so far, It's not done obviously (I have a similar file that more complete but uses a slightly different standard), but it shows how it's animated and what palette I am considering.

Are you thinking of something like Matrix or something ancient like IRC?
