the way i see it, the fall in literacy rates is just people getting more honest. back then, people needed to know how to read in order to get by. when given the choice of knowing how to read or not, most people simply are not interested in reading because they are not interested in books. this also goes for the same NPC normies who are hating on gen alpha.
most of the greatest geniuses came in ages with low literacy because it meant that the people who could read genuinely cared so all the material out there was top-notch. this is why i am quite optimistic about the fall in literacy rates.
