People tend to forget that fact, that when Jesus says, Do not resist evil, he was stating that you should not do what the ancients do, even in the Bible itself: eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. I retaliate, and your enemy retaliates back, and so on. And this causes endless bloodshed and blood feuds. And Jesus didn't like that because it was a morally rotten practice. So when he says, "Do not resist evil," the teaching was, as intended, was to not escalate petty stuff into a big blood feud which destroys your family. But this does not mean that you should not be against evil. Like say your family gets murdered by a murderer. That doesn't mean that you should not retaliate back against the murderer. And if you look at into Jesus's time, which was a strong honor-based and shame-based morality, where a person retaliating back was seen as a good thing, like so they could show face again.
