Suicide is troon-coded by itself, so (((encouraging))) anyone into it is not only troon-coded as well, but (((coded))) too because the most of troons and pooners are white and it's not the way to treat the fellow whities is it.
So before ACKing happens, one may do and try their best.

Step by step you may guide yourself (or others) onto the better path. It may not be the perfect one, but it's surely better than stepping over the final line — the surgery.

1. Tell xhem trvth about the surgery. About how it'd be similar to walking around with an open wound. About how the microbiome that's in genitals shan't be exposed to the open world or it'll rot, for the body will always try to close the wound, and xhey'll permanently nuke their body.

For some it may be enough: you (or your friend) won't go for surgery, and just stay where they are. They may even resemble a guy/girl and think of themselves as such, despite having their biological genitals. If it's fine with you, you may stop there.
If not, follow further

2. Make them think about whether they really want to be the different sex or not. Some just want to crossdress or hang around the very other sex without any possible romance attached. Or don't want to feel the pressure their biological sex may carry in the society they are/grew up in

Step by step once again. Some may be fine with just these two. If not, there're two final steps.

3. Derail the idea. It's simpler than you may think. Make them think about whether all this sex talk is really that important, do they really look at themselves any day in the mirror and cannot feel anything but disgust. Make them experiment with styles, with haircuts. Guide them into loving xhemselves without changing their very sex and identity

4. Talk about anything. Vidyagames, food, clothes, music, travelling, anything. Make them focus in anything else but their sex. Preferably avoid politics as they may trigger a person (even if xhey aren't troon or pooner BTW if that matters) and distress them more falling one or even several steps back. Distract them from the idea make it seem distant and unimportant.

All in all the most important advise I can give is - don't abandon your friend or isolate yourself. Isolation is what makes it futile, they gather on Preddit or 'Cord and hear not any alternative opinions and concerns, eventually cutting all ties to their relatives or friends.
If it all fails it's up to you whether you should continue your friendship or not. Some stay good at soul even after being crippled (going for surgery), which is rare but such cases occured.
