photocraft-algo is an internal core module (crate) of PhotoCraft, a prominent open-source, "clean-room" clone of Adobe Photoshop.
The entire PhotoCraft project was built from scratch in pure Rust by software engineer Brandon Thomas (with significant assistance from the Claude 3.5 AI model) as part of a suite of open-source software alternatives called ArtCraft.

Core Purpose of photocraft-algo

The photocraft-algo package acts as the mathematical and algorithmic backbone of the software. Located in the crates/algo directory of the official repository, its primary responsibilities include:
• Pixel and Image Processing: Powering heavy math-bound image computations like blending modes, opacity logic, and color profile conversions.
• Selection Logic: Driving the software's geometric and boundary-detection selection algorithms (e.g., marquee tools, lasso routing, and the bench_smartselect benchmark utility).
• Adjustment Calculations: Running the underlying color calculations for nondestructive adjustments like live Curves, Vibrance, and Levels.
Because performance is paramount for an offline photo editor, this specific crate is heavily optimized for speed using Rust's compiler optimizations (configured at opt-level = 3 for production and WebAssembly releases).
