The more interesting question is whether Salt's initial popularity was actually deserved, or whether people simply rewarded visible change without considering its consequences.

Suddenly the administration is treated as a success story.

But changing a large number of things immediately is not, by itself, evidence of good administration. It is entirely possible to make dramatic changes while still having no coherent long-term direction.

Salt has been in charge for less than three months, yet criticism of his administration is already dismissed with the same response every time:

At what point does “give him time” stop being a defense and start becoming an admission that there is not much to point to beyond the initial burst of activity?

The standard should not be whether Salt is more entertaining than the previous administration. The standard should be whether the site is actually being managed effectively.

If the answer depends entirely on what he did during his first few weeks, then the so-called Salt era may have been judged before it even had a chance to begin.
