I have a younger brother (16M). I'm 20 (still living at home because I go to school locally, but will probably move out while at uni at some point) and attending uni. He goes to school right by me, so I drive him there and back most days if our schedules align (long post with lots of context, but it is necessary, trust me).

He and I have had our struggles getting along over the years (mostly because he and I are very different people with different interests and tendencies, he is quite spacey and careless/unstructured whereas I'm an anxious perfectionist who crumbles in a lack of structure) but we are still pretty close and as of recently have bonded over our shared issues with our parents.

Recently, he and I had a conversation in the car on the way back home about music taste that devolved into something much more concerning. My brother likes to listen to rap music (nothing wrong with that, I don't because it's just not my preference to) and a lot of very, very profane music (I don't mind that and occasionally listen to music with lots of profanity myself, but what he said next was very odd to me). He said he likes to listen to rap music about money, sex, women, power, drugs, gangs, etc. to "make him feel powerful and confident". I was blunt and kind of said that he shouldn't need to listen to it to feel better about himself, especially because the lifestyle portrayed by some male artists, especially about women and sex, seems very exploitative and almost pimp-like. He just brushed me off.

I don't remember how the conversation turned in this direction, but it did. He then started a tirade about how much he hates socialism and that socialism will obviously lead to communism, and that people like Mamdani have it all wrong. He said "fuck those damn commies" and honestly started spewing a lot of dialogue that reminded me of what I see on YouTube channels like Jubilee, especially coming from a conservative debater.

I then asked him if he even knew what socialism is. He couldn't answer the question and had to Google it and read off the definition. I told him that he shouldn't listen to uninformed male podcasters (he spends 6-8 hours on YouTube every day, and given his demographic, I'm certain the algorithm sends them his way) and that he should instead read a book about the subject and form an opinion for himself, and that socialism and communism are different things, one not necessarily emerging from the other.

I told him that socialism is the reason universal healthcare and free education can exist. He then got all defensive and said that he had read many books on the subject (a lie, for sure, he hasn't picked up a book in at least 4 years) and that he is not getting his information from male podcasters and that even if he was, he agrees with some of them (he said he agrees with Jordan Peterson's views…). He also continued his tirade about how socialist state-regulated businesses shouldn't be a thing and that businesses should be allowed to do whatever they want. I then asked if a company like Amazon should be able to exploit their workers. He dodged the question and said that small businesses get shut down over minor health code violations all the time just because they "do one little thing wrong". I asked him what he was talking about and he just told me to "stop being like Charlie Kirk" by questioning his logic. Probably the most insulting thing he's ever said to me lol

Later that night I told my parents that this conversation happened, and that they should probably look into his watch history because it would be very easy for him to fall down the red pill pipeline and become very far right. My mom was very concerned and thanked me for telling her. My dad didn't really listen to me, but later confronted my brother about it and my brother got mad and asked if I said anything. My dad denied it, and later told me he found nothing on my brother's phone (my dad doesn't seem to care much about the things my brother consumes and tends to stay out of these things, and probably won't give him much guidance, which is sad to me).

It is worth mentioning that my brother has said before that he is not a feminist because he thinks feminist women think they are better than men and "elevate themselves to a higher level than men", but that he believes in equality of men and women and thinks checks should be split (this is stupid bevause to me he's clearly cherry-picking feminism when it's good/convenient for him, especially considering that he has a job like me and still asks me to go out and eat with him all the time and expects that I'll pay, and I do because I worry he'll bitch to my parents and cause a rift if I don't, and because I feel bad/responsible as his older sister…). I just think he's headed down a path that will make him absolutely insufferable and cause a lack of success in his dating life, which is important at his age. He has a crush on a girl now, and honestly, I'm a little scared for her. I don't know if there is much I can do in this situation, but I worry my parents (my dad especially) aren't concerned enough about this.

ETA: He also told me that because I believe in socialism, I was aligning myself with fascists and dictators…

ETA 2: Last year, he had several screaming fits with me in the car while I was driving because I said something he didn't like, asked him to please not do something, etc. My parents said to just not provoke him and it wouldn't happen. It happened at least once unprovoked. They did tell him to stop and grounded him (I think) but the behavior just continued. He has since acknowledged it was wrong, though, to his credit…

ETA 3: We are also an ethnic minority. I won't say which, but I think it's a relevant detail here.

ETA 4: For some more context, my brother also has a very strange fixation on his looks. Like, the type where he googles what biological body types there are, how proportional his face is according to AI scanners, how easy it should be for him to gain muscle, etc. Also the whole "golden ratio" and "scientific attractiveness" bullshit. He's even pointed out what body type I have (I think he said "ectomorph" or something like that, which is apparently ideal). Not sure if this is relevant but I find it very weird regardless (my parents do too).

ETA 5: Holy shit, the amount of men posting comments on here attacking me that are subsequently deleted is hilarious. You jerks are the reason I made this post…

ETA 6: I forgot to mention that he and I recently talked about the looksmaxxing community because he brought up Clavicular's recent arrest and how he isn't surprised he was arrested for a sexual crime (at least he isn't supporting a r*pist…). He then proceeded to tell me that there are facial massages and exercises you can do to change your mouth shape and reduce mouth breathing. When I asked for proof, he just said he read it in some medical journal. My STEM major ass was facepalming so hard. Also, for some reason, this convo was also in the car. He has this weird habit or discussing weird opinions/takes/conversations he has while I'm driving him somewhere. He rarely, if ever, discusses this stuff with or around my parents, when they are together or separately (to my knowledge). It's very odd. His fixation on himself as his favorite conversation topic seems very narcissistic to me.
