The only thing I would reccomed (even if that is based on my own way of perceiving my existence), would be suggesting him to do crazy shit (like extreme sports) before offing himself, just to make his experience a little bit more meaningful.
Btw if he is depressed for absolutely no real reason he might have a brain tumor, so suggest him to get checked, just to give him hope of recovery even if he most likely it's all ok.
