The second pic was from the archive, which didn't have a higher res. It calls him a cuck at the end.
Basically the socialite jewess had a public instagram and some anon noticed moot on it. Unfortunately for moot, they noticed he was credited for paying for their vacation, carrying her luggage around, and notoriously, being called a friend while a few weeks later (iirc) she posted a picture of her and some chad-lite being intimate together at a pool.

I forgot to mention he nuked 4chan (particularly /pol/) in retaliation.
This scandal came after he was spending tens of thousands of dollars and dozens of hours working on the legal aftermath of the fappening + gamergate.
It was the straw that broke the camels back, he never admitted it, but that's why he quit the site.

Also the fact that the mods on 4chan were (and still are) actively making the place worse. He probably would have stuck around years longer if the mods were bad. But moot is a bad judge of character so it was inevitable that people he hired would push him away. "Can't ban porn from the website. Can't remove faggot mods that directly oppose the spirit of the rules and website. Somehow it will all just work." Very stupid.

This is a meme. After going through the bibliotheca Anonoma again, I really didn't get that impression, he had thorough control over them, it was the anons he grew to hate. The only altercation between the two groups read to me more as moot lashing out at 4chan in general.

>>17896033
That's the thing. 4chan's userbase was getting worse back then. It was getting worse because the mods suck and stopped caring. They became politically motivated (in retarded ways) as well, because of the Occupy Wallstreet movement just a couple years before. I was there. /v/ was in fact usable up to the point moot left. Moot was doing most of the work and admitted it in his livestream. And it's rumored that a few mods that actually did anything helpful also left when he did.

Definitely. 4chan is done and 3+ years of stats showing a declining userbase and 3 times as many years of declining quality prove it. It's not influential or original, and only very rarely funny. Nobody worth talking to has the time to deal with the website on a technical level these days either.

 β„–17896212[Quote]

>>17896168

 β„–17896308[Quote]

>>17896145
You can blame someone for choosing a poor host to sell it to, the site's been shit since 2016 i wanna say but in the last few years it's been straight up unusable unless you pay, the userbase is dead because nobody can fucking post

 β„–17896340[Quote]

>>17896212
Everyone knew Hiro was going to make the website worse, but I don't think many people expected him to let the website rot for over a decade. Most people were expecting about 5 years of data selling, ads, and heavy censorship to the point people would just leave and the website would just shut down one day. Nobody expected him to do data selling and poor attempts to sell ads. Although, back then we pretty much all thought of 4chan as a place that could be whipped into some sort of short term money maker. Turns out the website had a worse reputation than most regular users were aware of so ads aren't lucrative. The mods completely destroyed any salvageable brand image. The place is obviously full of bots and shills doing guerilla marketing, but a large enough real userbase isn't there to see the ads. If someone actually audited 4chan's traffic and finances, I think it would go under pretty quickly.

 β„–17896422[Quote]

>>17896340
I browse /g/ and on some hours you'll go a minute or two between actual posts, shit is dead and dying at the same time. and the only posts you do so are nonsensical or third worlder schizo bullshit or shills, the real people probably have to be in the low hundreds

 β„–17896424[Quote]

does 4chan break even?
They had to make the captcha incredibly obnoxious to sell more passes, but that also lowers the number of posts and makes the site worse. Apart from the passes they sell ad space, but if you ever visited 4chan recently you have probably seen that it's not exactly the highest caliber of advertising, mostly porn sites on the yellow boards and softcore porn sites on the blue boards. So that doesn't pay much probably.

 β„–17896475[Quote]

>>17896340
Why did he even buy 4chan? It should have been obvious to him that its a money sink. Is it just symbolic for him since he used to own 2 channel (iirc, or some other japanese oldfag ib)

Yeah the captcha is definitely there ro make people buy passes. One of the many things contributing to the death of 4chan.
From a new ip it takes you like 2 minutes to solve the thing. They have a 60 second timeout and then you have to complete 4 challenges correctly to pass. No one is doing that shit to post on a fucking imageboard. This decimates the number of posters.

 β„–17896721[Quote]

>>17896701

Hiro and 4chan's staff know that 4chan is 100% dying and they're just trying to squeeze schizos and retards who are willing to pay because they the type to be mindlessly prideful about what websites they use. The goal is not to improve the website, it's to extract money from insufferable idiots until they can't make a reasonable amount of money out of them.

I believe corrupt government money was flowing into the website as well, but my reasoning behind it sounds weird. 4chan is a great political tool to make right wing leaning people look completely insane. Not to mention the "it's a good way to trap pedos" cover story for its allowed existence. Pedos are pretty open about themselves on plenty of other websites, but that's overlooked when most people are talking or thinking about 4chan.

>>17896475
Probably thought too highly of his ability to scam people. 4chan became a BIG name in 2014, and he likely thought something along the lines of "all publicity is good publicity" and that he could spin it in his favor with a relatively short pump and dump. I sincerely doubt he originally thought the website would last this long and drag its feet on everything.

 β„–17896752[Quote]

>>17896701

The hack made it clear the site is quite literally rotting. They didn't update the software since like 2015. Hiro does not give a shit, i bet he forgets he even owns it from time to time.
He just tells his admins to squeeze some cash from the userbase and goes back to streaming or whatever it is he does these days.

 β„–17896928[Quote]

>>17896767
In the past it's likely what paid the bills and Hiro could skim extra off the top. After the whole USAID thing and alphabet agencies shakeup when Trump got in a second time, I'm thinking most or all political financial aid to 4chan is gone. Think about the timing of the hack and the seemingly deliberate attempts to destroy user numbers over the last year. Less users means less bandwidth, so lower operating cost. I think 4chan couldn't keep itself afloat naturally because it was being used and financed as a political puppet.

 β„–17896974[Quote]

How much of 4chan's supposed downfall is the fault of society in general.
I don't think it'd be controversial here for me to say that anonymous websites are the best places to experience the zeitgeist. The world has been developing unfortunately in recent years, which reflects in the degradation of the discussion on 4chan. Whether or not I enjoy the site comes second to whether or not it's the most accurate social media.

It's too bad that almost everyone has an opsec level of -2 these days. They post way too much where they should be posting very little. It's embarrassing how other millennials will say they learned all about online safety 20+ years ago, yet they still post almost everything detestable and identifiable thing about themselves out in the open. They really are 1 hack and a text message away from ending it.

>>17897290
4chan could actually serve MORE of a purpose these days if it wasn't so awful and full of troon mods. People are getting more fired up about politics every single day. An imageboard is needed so normalfags can feel more open to talking about how they really feel, then it would expand more to greater social media as people grow more bold. But like I said, 4chan has completely horrible moderation that's actually very close to Reddit. They would be curating discussion if bans were reliable and took no effort. Oh, and if they actually spent time on 4chan instead of other social media websites. But the reputation and usability of the website is gone.

A different large imageboard would be nice, but I don't really see that happening now. People are being pushed to be more identifiable than ever before.

It's really why it makes me sad that there's so little in the way of anonymous websites like i said before, it's either this place filled with schizophrenics and irony posters and children (usually combining the former two) or other altchans like 8ch etc which at best have post traffic of maybe 20 posts per hour on a board, i wish there was a good way to advertise them but where do you post it? normalfag sites require you to dox yourself so you'd need to take one for the team, or risk getting shadowbanned (reddit) or mostly ignored anyways, or get word filtered (on 4ch assuming you can even post in the first place) it's all so fucking sad and i dont know a way to fix it, we really are in the end game of the internet
