You can't ignore that death is a big part of everyones life and how it needs to be part of religion, especially Christianity. As much as it's about the praise and teachings of Jesus, Christianity also has a large focus on mortality that is shown through skull imagery.

Christianity's main focus is believing that Jesus is the Son of God, who has died for our sins on the cross and has risen again after three days. Although death is important as every human eventually dies carnally, worshipping death is pretty much obsolete if you believe in the afterlife.
In relation to picrel, displays like these are secondary, and I'd argue other imagery like Mary's statues are secondary as well, and shouldn't be the main focus of the religion.

I am a protestant and I do dislike the idolatry of Catholicism but I do appreciate how they have been more dedicated to the teachings of Christ than most of my local protestant congregations, who decline rapidly year after year.
