Is there anything "wrong" with pixel art and low-polygon models in indie games? It looks decent, and is good for indie devs since it isn't as costly compared to A, AA and AAA games. Customers can't reasonably expect that to make a good indie game, the developer has to get a second mortgage to work on the game for three years for the miniscule chance of being the next big indie game.

Pixel art is lazy

I agree, in comparison to something like Hollow Knight (that IS an indie game because the team wasn't that well known and they hadn't gotten the gorillion bucks from their game), pixel art looks worse. However, I don't think it is reasonable to harshly critique indie game devs for choosing pixel art as their medium/style. Of course it is less effort overall, that is why people use it when they know that their game isn't likely to succeed even if they used a medium or style requiring more effort.

But sometimes pixel art is done really well for example Terraria, its pixel art is very detailed and finely shaded

There are fantastic examples of pixel done being done well, however I doubt it comes to the same level of "quality" of art that traditional or normgroid digital methods produce. Pixel art, due to the style and the medium, lacks the same amount of fidelity that you can find in higher effort styles.

Terraria has good pixel art (after the mechanical bosses the art noticeably improves), Blasphemous has good art that offsets the iron quality gameplay, etc etc. However, the main point I want to make in this thread is that I don't think devs should be disparaged for using pixel art (tbh low-polygon models are cancer now that I think about it, the technology for making decent models is out there and there are hundreds of free videos on 3d modeling).
