Where are you getting this comparison from? I have never heard of a woman being obsessed with gore, period. Violence and its consequences is a masculine field of study.

I never realized until recently how abnormal it is for guys to like violent things. We play violent video games and watch violent entertainment. I'm not saying it translates into real life crime but it is weird when you think about it.

Maybe they do it to fullfill something lacking in their lives. Angsty people who are unsatisfied with life live vicariously through watching violence, while people who got traumatized by it use escapism by other means (sanitized children's cartoons or whatever). There's some exceptions ofc but this is the impression i got.
