>>17609977I think something is seriously wrong with my house. I've been hearing this muffled, wet tapping sound from inside the wall right behind my headboard for about three weeks now. I kept telling myself it was just a burst pipe or some rats in the insulation because I didn't want to deal with it, but the rhythm of it has been entirely too consistent. It's always three slow taps, a pause, and then three more. Anyway, the heating completely cut out about an hour ago, and the temperature dropped instantly. It got so cold that I could actually see my breath fogging up in front of me. Right after the radiators went dead, the tapping in the wall just stopped. The silence was honestly worse than the noise. Then I heard this awful, slow dragging sound coming from the hallway. It sounded like something heavy and wet being pulled across the floorboards. I was completely paralyzed under the covers, just staring at the bedroom door. The brass knob turned slowly, and the door clicked open. There was absolutely nothing out there—just the dark hallway. But when I let out a breath, the white fog from my mouth didn't disappear. It drifted toward the doorway and started swirling around, condensing into this impossibly tall, thin silhouette. It didn't walk; it just glided into the room toward me. As it got closer, this overwhelming smell of stagnant river water and rotting wood hit me, and I heard this loud, sickening wet crack as its neck tilted sideways. It leaned right over the bed, inches from my face. It didn't have eyes, just these deep, hollow recesses. It opened its mouth which looked like a jagged tear in the fog and I could literally feel the warmth and air being pulled right out of my chest.I finally managed to move, bolted out of bed, and ran down to the kitchen. I'm sitting here typing this now, but I just looked down at the floor. I thought whatever it was had come down the hallway, but there is a trail of dark, damp puddles leading straight out from underneath my bed. I don't think I can go back in there.
