Why isn't German a more taught language in the US?

Unlike French, it's far more widely used, and in it's three biggest areas (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) are all beautiful none shitholes (For now).

Not only that, but it's still a widely learned second language across Europe, so why is French the only alternative to spicnish in the US?

It used to be an option for school language classes but it was 'nished during world war one and German cultural expressions were considered anti-american because we were at war with the germans.
