He tells them to be quieter, so the lead kid in the group approachs the main character and basically threatens to beat him up if he doesn't apologize. He's like "oh you're right I'm really sorry don't hurt me" or whatever, and after his girlfriend looks kinda disgusting and said some deep instinctual part of her is less attracted to him now. I just came up with a less aggressive and more realistic version of this. Also I think in the movie scene it's easier to say "fight the guy" than the store scenario.
