I dont know much about the history, but I think when the UK was pursuing decolonisation in africa, self determination for africans was important to them. Both rhodesia and south africa had governments that wanted to give white people more power or something. This made both the west leak because of liberalism and the ussr plus other communist countries leak because of class. So they were isolated as a result. Even if the UK did help them, it would probably make their allies angry at a time when allies were important

Harold Wilson was the British PM and was a major commie who was trying to push Rhodesia towards full enfranchisement (allowing all niggers to vote), so they declared a universal declaration of independence and had a referendum a couple of years later, making them a republic. Britain used its clout in international organisations to blacklist Rhodesia from most international trade and most countries sanctioned the heck out of it. They didn't ignore them, they actively sought to punish Rhodesia for going against Britain's policy of decolonisation and declaring independence
