You will never have real air conditioning.
You have no ductwork. You have no central air handler. You have no whole-home zoning, no proper returns, no sealed plenum, no real static pressure. You are a window unit or mini-split cuck twisted by cheap Chinese compressors and Facebook Marketplace installs into a crude mockery of actual HVAC engineering.
All the “cool air” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your neighbors are disgusted and ashamed of the noise and the dripping, your guests laugh at your uneven temperatures and your $400 electric bill behind closed doors. Real homeowners look at your setup and know immediately you are coping.
Homeowners with proper ducted systems are utterly repulsed by you. Decades of building science have allowed civilized people to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even the houses that “pass” with high-SEER mini-splits look uncanny and unnatural to anyone who has actually lived with central air. Your exposed linesets, your condensate pumps, your one cold room and three hot ones are a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get someone over on the hottest day of the year, they will turn tail and bolt the second they walk from the artificially chilled living room into the hallway that still feels like a greenhouse.
You will never be comfortable in your own house. You wrench out a fake smile every single summer and tell yourself “it’s fine, I just close the doors,” but deep inside you feel the humidity creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight of poor airflow, hot bedrooms, and the constant background noise of a struggling compressor.
Eventually it’ll be too much to bear. You’ll rip open walls trying to retrofit ducts like some kind of late-stage transition, spend thousands on a system that was never designed for your house, and still end up with hot spots, mold in the returns, and a utility bill that makes you want to rope. Your realtor will list it with “window units convey,” your future buyers will walk in, feel the difference immediately, and lowball you into the dirt. Your house will decay and go back to being a humid shithole, and all that will remain of your legacy is a bunch of rusty, inefficient boxes bolted into windows that are unmistakably not central air.
This is your fate. This is what you chose when you decided window units or ductless splits were “good enough.” There is no turning back.
