Whether or not that’s detection-based or truly accurate is hard to say, but the studies are there.

There are many who think negatively about the furry community, mostly from ignorance of course. But that social pressure is there. But most furries are the sort of people to have a deep passion for a subject (sometimes even fixation) and to be able to disregard and be unaffected by that social pressure. Just being themselves and enjoying what they enjoy without either surrendering to that outside pressure or even having anger and hate towards them either. And I'm not an expert by far, but I think those abilities tend to be thrown in with neurodivergency? Whether true or not, I personally think that's where the assumption comes from. I mean… I'm baised, as I am those things lol. But I did philosophy and the arts not stem, so proof it's not homogenous lol
