The anatomy piece is basically the same idea, just without the vaginal wall involved: the anus and surrounding perineal area are just close to whatever else you're touching, and even a small amount of stool near the anal opening can transfer to fingers easily during that kind of touch, especially with deeper or more angled contact near the rectum.
The smell/cleanup advice all still applies:
For the smell:

Cool/lukewarm water first, not hot (hot can set the odor compounds instead of lifting them)
Nail brush, specifically under and around nails — that's where it hides
Wash twice back-to-back rather than one long scrub
A degreasing soap (dish soap works well) cuts it better than moisturizing hand soap
Lemon juice, vinegar, or coffee grounds rubbed on hands then rinsed — same trick used for garlic/fish smell
Hand sanitizer after washing as a finishing step

To prevent it:

A flushable wipe beforehand to clear any residue near the anus
Keeping nails trimmed shorter so there's less surface area to trap residue
Keeping wipes or a washcloth nearby for cleanup right after, instead of needing to get to a sink
