This is especially true for bonobos. The males basically need to produce as much sperm as possible hoping that it's their sperm which is successful in producing offspring vs all the other males she mated with.
The other three species (humans, orangutans, gorillas) are more "hypergamous" and rely more on long term relationships. Gorillas are especially hypergamous with a very low % of males reproducing. It's usually just a dominant silverback which has his concubine while the defeated males don't mate. What's actually kinda cool about orangutans is there's a literal physical difference between the dominant and subordinate males, where the dominant ones have the "flangs" on their face (pic rel). It's a process where some of the unflanged males develop flangs as they sort of become more dominant. Sometimes the unflanged ones can secretly mate with the females outside of the flanged male's notice. Gorilla and orangutan females seem to care more about if the male can fight off other males more than human females, who care more about dick size.
Humans are kind of in the middle of the 5 species when it comes to hypergamy, though humans of course of the most complex social dynamics any species. By the way when I say hypergamy I'm talking about both women choosing certain men based on sexual attractiveness, but also certain men having a lot of power and resources and basically "collect" women. Genghis khan may have been ugly with a small dick but he had kids with probably like hundreds of women just cause he could make them do whatever he wanted. What's interesting is hypergamous practices actually increased a lot as humans transitioned from paleolithic hunter gatherer times to neolithic societies with complex hierarchies (cause the village chiefs and kings would fuck all the women). It decreased again down to historic lows in medieval and early modern times with marriage culture, but has been increasing again as of late due to women having more sexual freedom + dating apps.
I might have gotten some of the monkey info wrong cause a lot of this is based on stuff I read in a class years ago.
