HTSM is one of those things nobody fully agrees on, yet everyone acts like they understand it better than everyone else.

The strange part isn’t HTSM itself—it’s how quickly people turn it into a status test. If you like it, you’re “in the know.” If you question it, you’re “missing the point.” If you ignore it, you’re “out of touch.”

That alone makes HTSM kind of fascinating.

Because at a certain point, HTSM stops being a thing and becomes a signal—people aren’t reacting to what it is, but what it represents socially. And once that happens, the original meaning doesn’t matter anymore. The arguments become the content.

And maybe that’s why it spreads so easily:
not because it’s clear, but because it’s unclear enough for everyone to project onto it.

So the real HTSM effect might just be this:

the less defined something is, the more confidently people will fight about it.
