Get a Jackson Dinky with 24 frets. One of the 200 dollar ones, real cheap but VERY reliable. I still play mine 5 years later. Im sure it will work fine for country with nickel strings on it even if it looks more metal, and the 2 octave range on each fret from having 24 give a lot of flexibility for what you can play.

>>16093826Don't do this there's no reason to learn to read music for like 99% of what you'll do. Learning to play by ear is a much more important skill

>>16093804Op here, im in the south, Iβd love to get a banjo but I want to start off with a guitar instead, Im not here to sing some spic love song or about hippie peace, I want to play the songs of the greats like hank williams jr and confederate railroad

>>16093894I heard sinatra didnt learn to read music, is that true?
β16093900[Quote]
>>16093844I mean you can get an acoustic but I'd still recommend electric just because you can play anything on an acoustic and just use a clean tone plus anything on an electric
β16093906[Quote]
>>16093894I literally can read music and I haven't had to do it in over 5 years at this point because when youre gigging you have your parts memorized. Nobody is reading music for guitar dude

>>16093894Is it worth it to learn how to read music and music theory?
β16093949[Quote]
>>16093919fair enough. Good luck with starting out, its the hardest part. So long as you just stick with it and play consistently eventually you'll be able to play anything. Also, don't waste your time with a lot of exercises you'll see on youtube. They're useful sometimes but what will help you improve the fastest is just playing songs that have whatever technique you're trying to practice.
β16093960[Quote]
>>16093943Reading music no, basic theory yes. Know the intervals between notes, basic modes, how to recognize a key, and how to name/build chords. So long as you're not gonna be a professional composer or gig professionally this should be all you really need.

β16094054[Quote]
>>16094038Unless you're a classical player, it's really impractical to go out of your way to learn and use sheet music whilst your playing when reading tabs and learning off by heart is what literally everyone else does and it works fine. Learning sheet music is important if you plan on transferring that skill to other instruments, if not then it really doesn't matter.
β16094058[Quote]
>>16094038It's a retarded thing because you don't really need it. I haven't had to read sheet music in over 5 years. it can confuse a beginner because there are multiple ways to play most notes. Unless you already know your way around the fretboard and what most guys usually do for situations like this it can lead to developing bad habits and unneeded frustration.
β16094078[Quote]
>>16094058learning to learn by ear is also a better skill to have. You use it a whole lot more and if you can't find sheet music (because nobody uses fucking sheet music in most genres) or a tab you can still learn the song
