I've been here for two years now and I have not experienced this once. I would hate to be a Quote-era newfag, simply due to how damn boring it is. I joined the 'sphere just a week before the Soypocolypse occurred, so I was fortunate enough to see the Froot-era from the very beginning to the very end.
Something about that era was just so different to what we have now. I can only describe it as an "elegant chaos" in the sense that every day there was always something big and fun occurring. A big raid - ala the first Pyrocynical one - a huge thread that could last hours, a new event, a new "operation", a new board etc etc. There was never a dull moment and despite all this, everything was moderated fairly well and fuck, even the floods of occasional bait were pretty funny at times. There were fewer namefags with more personality built around them, much more concentrated culture in general too due to immigrants being warded off with DNB and other forms of newfag repellent.
I could go on and on, but it truly felt like one big chaotic stupor. That was of course until Quote came in and just kind of let the site rot with nothing to note. Take the recent /phonk/ board for example, in the Froot-era there were boards like that being created on a bi-weekly basis with actual shit happening on them. /dem/ was such a good board while it was around. I didn't care for the elections, but just the energy it created site-wide was interesting to observe.
