We should be putting out time into researching teleportation instead of trying to discover faster than light travel, what then if we do manage faster than light travel? The creation of voidships would be even more costly in perhaps the most rarest of materials.

Even with faster than light travel you cannot easily move armies and armaments with it unlike through portals.
