Yesterday I made a post (on /pol/) claiming atheists have no reason to exist other than seeking pleasure but I think I was wrong.
Feeling pleasure is not the most desirable thing for a human, beauty is. This is why godless people will not always give themselves up to their fleshly desires, it's just that they are more likely to fall for the trap of never ending pleasure because they lack justification for why they should keep creating beauty that christianity and following Jesus is meant to provide. By beauty I mean things like seeking the truth, creating art, buildings statues, symbolic monuments, sacrificing yourself for others. No animal on earth does this and that's what makes us separate from them. Animals seek pleasure, humans love beauty. This is why even the least intelligent human with down syndrome and 10 IQ is more important than the smartest animal, the human always has some desire to seek beauty.
Unfortunately this unique aspect of humans can get corrupted by sin, the abuse of pleasure. Constant sin will eventually put pleasure as the most important value for a human, turning them into almost an animal. None of us can entirely get rid of our desires for pleasure because we're all sinners, Jesus was the only perfect man who created beautiful things in life and never sinned or gave into pleasure. But I don't think we can fully lose our love for beauty no matter how much we sin, at most it will get buried beneath our constant desire for pleasure.
This explains why God created us. Like humans, he loved beauty and created them in his image so that their existence can also be beautiful.

I remember reading that post, well said

First of all consider the position that the perception of beauty is a type of pleasure.
We consider this a higher form of pleasure because as you said animals cannot consider pleasure. This is because humans are rational. But rational and nonrational are not distinct categories because it exists along a continuum defined by brain development. There is no reason other species may evolve higher brain functions so as to be deemed rational by human standards.
You also seem ready to fall into the idea that pleasure is bad, which is not supported by the Catholic Church which recognizes pleasure can be good, although Protestant sects are often prone to think pleasure itself is disordered.
