I've been having issues with sleep for some time now. My main issue is not being able to break the routine of bringing laptop to bed, and then proceed to do stuff on it until 3 or 4 am. Problem is that I feel pretty vividly awake during this time, in fact I like to study a lot during this period all kinds of stuff, both for work/college and personal. It feels like my brain is in its most focused state, I think because of the quietness and comfort of the night. I think it started during highschool when I'd study until late night to pass tests (it worked and I did well) and it just kinda stuck. But having shitty sleep takes a noticeable toll on me, both physically and mentally. I'd love to change but I don't know how, I've tried putting all the electronics away, which resulted in me staring at the ceiling for hours, I work out to get tired but I still can't fall asleep. I usually sleep for around 3 hours a day, and then 12 hours during weekends when I don't need to be anywhere.

If (you) have/had similar problems, what worked and what didn't? Or maybe are you fine with things the way they are?
And anyone who has experience with pills, can you share whether they worked or not?

how the fuck are people so devoid of free will that they can not regulate their sleep schedule

Take this advice OP. Watching the sunset and sunrise ensures that your body maintains a healthy circadian rhythm i.e. your body knows when it's time to wake up and to go to sleep. Other tips I would give are:

1. Keep a cool sleeping environment, definitely not hot or warm.
2. Avoid drinking liquids or eating several hours before bed (if you drink alot before bed you'll wake up to piss if you eat your body will be busy metabolizing the food that you ate preventing it from falling asleep)
3. Avoid blue light and EMF's like the plague. Blue light from electronics and EMF's (radiation from electronic devices) has been consistently shown to completely rape your sleep quality and the ability to keep up a healthy circadian rhythm. Shut off all electronics and unplug them an hour before bed (do not peak at something on your phone, laptop or replug them). Specifically in your case I'd recommend getting 100% blue light blocking glasses, I myself don't have them as I don't see the need but I'd think they'd help you. Make sure they are of a amber or orange tint, if not then they definitely don't block 100% of blue light.
4. Sleep without an alarm. I have been sleeping and waking without an alarm for quite a while and it feels good, you'd probably need to establish a bedtime routine first though.
5. And lastly consistently go to bed at about the same time.

I really don't know what else to add but I know for certain that if you follow these tips you'll be fine.

Good luck 'teen <3

Do you have a quiet place in your house to study in? Like your own room

 â„–90968[Quote]

Thank you for the replies. The thread >>90706 was very helpful.
I've tried it for the past few days but I think my body needs to recalibrate a bit. It's almost 4:30 am, I've just gazed into the ceiling the whole night. I did everything, I made sure I was tired by doing cardio, I didn't eat, all of the devices in other room. It pisses me off, I try to do things right yet I end up just being awake through the whole night. I hope I will do better next day.

I do, I live alone, but it's not just the quietness of the night that draws me, it's the whole thing of darkness and just feeling like I am all alone at a moment. Peace.

if you cant sleep at 4:30 then dont sleep. get out of the house before the time you would fall asleep in if you kept waiting and stay awake until 6-7pm. wake up early the next day but tire yourself out 2-3 hours before bed time and repeat always waking up at the same time. it takes multiple cycles to form the habbit

I wish I could wake up early again but my sleep schedule is also fucked because I work a night job that goes as late as 3:30 in the morning. But having the day off is nice I suppose so to each their own or something
