I think that commentaries and stuff should be left for later, its not uncommon they're wrong in one way or another (even if unintentionally so)
Theres also a chance it boxes in or limits my interpretation of something to a specific domain, when its more broadly applicable
Ask a theologian and whatever religious text you thought could give you valuable insight is instead reduced to speculative fiction about snca debates within their fields

I respect stalin in a weird way. When Bulgakov was persecuted Stalin called him and gave the guy a job.
When Zamyatin complained his work was being censored, and begged Stalin to give him the death penalty, Stalin instead proposed he emigrate to France and continue writing.
Stalin is a lot more complex than evil bad man, he also wrote an essay later in life (the limits of socialism o algo) criticizing 'socialist linguistics'
