When it comes to Beria Stalin definitely knew. He told his daughter to stay far away from him because he was worried even she would be at risk from him. He probably saw Beria as a necessary evil to have a powerful secret service.
I don't see Stalin as an evil bad man, he is definitely an interesting character and did go back on some changes he made once he realised that they were causing major issues. He was trying to improve his nation. A lot of his problems were caused by his paranoia that people were out to get him.
Molotov was definitely a massive dork, IIRC when his wife (jewish btw) was arrested by stalin he just kept supporting him and didn't do much to try and get her freed.
