We don't know anything about the language of the Old Sardinians other than that they probably gave us the island's name. We don't know ANYTHING about 99% of pre-Indo-European languages because they weren't literate and never wrote anything down. Could you even fathom how much culture has been entirely lost? How many heroes whose praises will never be sung again? How can one not mourn the loss?

I really hope that they crack Linear A one of these days. Thankfully we know(?) a lot more about it than any of the other examples I've given, but I'm still mourning the fact that for now, we are so close yet so far.

I started learning German recently and my mind was blown by how unlike English it is. I mean yeah you have haben, besser, wasser, etc blah blah blah but overall it feels very foreign, all the verbs start with S and they all look almost identical, nouns are long and take lots of effort to say, the word order is weird. I want to know what english sounded like when it was like german

tsmt linguistics are so fucking cool, it's one of the few "reddit" things that i can get behind & on that note the page for the IPA on the shiki is probably one of the most obsessed things i've ever seen
