It started out kinda based but the church descended into theological liberalism under the new pastor and I just kinda checked out. Losing the Sunday school teacher was hard on my family.
I listen to Orthox sermons and I attend the liturgy when I can, read my Orthodox study bible, but we don't have a church in my town. There are a couple of baptist churches that have a lot of young families but I asked the pastor what he thought of the modern state of Israel and he told me that God blesses those who bless Israel shit.
I have considered starting an Orthodox Ecumenical study and inviting the church to send a priest to bless us when possible, but otherwise stick to the liturgy as defined by the church. Starting a church is a lot of work I can't pursue with a full time job, though. I would need other people to help me.
My neighbor is the pastor of a Lutheran church and he's theologically conservative. I have spoken to him about the teachings of Martin Luther a lot, and thought about teaming up with him to get the church aligned with LCMS, the conservative branch of Lutheranism. Western progressives really fucked up our faith, though, and his entire congregation is exclusively old people. Like, what's the point of riling up a bunch of Boomers who would enthusiastically nod along no matter what was said?
I'm struggling here.
