I think we should remove the nuclear family but not in that retarded marxist way. As soon as you're born you should be under the responsibility of your kin-based proximity. Ideally you should actively have the feeling of "I'm on my own" instilled into you at birth and in turn incentivizing you to become subordinate within your own kin rather than reliance on your parents. It also provides basic fault-tolerance.

Only works in a homogeneous society, though.

Is a stranger who shares your same predispositions any more 'strange' to you than your parents? That would immediately rule out all teachers, pediatricians, clinic nurses, and anyone outside your direct lineage. 'Stranger' is a weak identification that only makes sense if your country has been infected with foreigners.

Is it really supervision? You're put in an environment separated from your family for 8 hours a day for the majority of the days in your developing life until you graduate, then you have to think about moving out. It's also more apparent if you barely see one or both of your parents due to them having work. Even from the age of 14, people already start growing less connected psychologically to their parents in relation to their sentiments for their outside kin.

this is interesting, but the way i see it most people (children at least) are connected to their parents and inclined towards them just because they are their parents
however this can change say if the child is mistreated
interesting point you have

Personally I think it's more conditional on who resides within your 'shelter' the most (especially during early-stages in development) and who you believe to be the authority figure that works in the interests of your dispositions. Another part of that connection could likely be a result of self-referential mechanisms (similar smell, face, voice, personality, etc) to identify those who are biologically related.
