Hello, what do you think of mandatory savings accounts as an alternative to the welfare state? I don't care that much about the coercive nation but one thing it does is it dodges a hard filter of demographic/tfr problems wrt each generation paying for itself, it probably is more efficient too

It's not ideal in the long run, but it would be an improvement over Social Security. Are you talking about something like the SS "privatization" scheme floated by the Bush administration? That would have amounted to a massive wealth transfer from taxpayers to Wall Street.

I wasn't thinking about the US at all, i had Singapore's model in mind done through *technically* a non-state body. And I know libertarians ans classical liberals had historically suggested MSAs as an alternative to the welfare state. And you still own the money and can spend it however so it doesn't count as governemt spending or tax technically. It's superior to a lot of private insurance schemes because of the ownership aspect (so your pot is part of your estate if you die before exhausting it).
