The sense of equality Leftists have developed throughout the course of their existence is inherently flawed and unsustainable, focusing only on the result and not the means it took to reach the result in the first place. A Leftist looks at the end result of a hard day of labor of two completely different people, sees one of them made more money and as such concludes that the system they both live under is inherently flawed, completely disregarding the level of effort and ingenuity compared to the two persons.
Even if you managed to perfectly redistribute the resources of a society, the only thing that would occur is the wealth slowly accumulating back to the smarter people that have adopted a good work ethic assuming the market is efficient (which under capitalism it's not perfect but that's because people are by their nature imperfect and asking for anything better is asking of people to perform better, which is a fool's errand) and most importantly not tampered with by the government.
At a certain point in time, Leftists actually cared about equal opportunities without paying too much attention on the result, since the result obviously differed from person to person due to a variety of factors, like upbringing, culture and IQ. But when they eventually realized that this would further help unite people together, they decided to redefine equality, similar to how they redefined racism to prejudice plus power in order to create a "us vs them" mentality"
Trying to tackle societal problems which are apparent to anyone incapable of lying to themselves, like the disproportionate amount of crime committed by blacks, the right winger will look at the root cause of such a problem, either by pointing to upbringing and culture ("Blacks act like that because they promote a culture which idolizes pride and envy"), and the more extreme types might argue that genetics play a factor ("Blacks act like that because they are by their nature and on average stupider"). The Leftist, on the other hand, cannot tackle these problems, since that would imply that the idea of equality they've developed is wrong and that results differ due to factors dependent on the individual and not the wider system. So, they double down until they look like fools, blaming the system of capitalism that everyone lives under, ev&doe white people also live under capitalism and don't act like this (at least not as frequently per capita), ev&doe socioeconomic factors cannot explain why the black guy on the metro shanked that random white woman. Even in the most extreme case scenario with the right winger, the Chud is closer to the truth than the Leftist.
