And they think all oldfags are obnoxious anime and porn spammers that go out of their way to make things worse. Some of those people existed, but most of us weren't. Being a 4chan oldfag is more of a mindset that is now lost to time than anything else.
Note that I'm talking about the website as whole, not just parroting "le /b/ was always bad!". Speaking of which, /b/ was always bad, but the place was spiritually killed around 2012/2013 when it essentially became a porn board. I can't be too precise about when it fell off entirely, because I stopped being a regular around 2011 but the true fall wasn't during The Fappening (2014). I can say that it became worse as silly greentext stories and dumb image-based memes like FBF fell out of favor. Now the website is basically the worst of what the 3rd world has to offer, and you absolutely should blame the moderation for that. moot was dumb but even he had tangible standards. Rapeape and all of the mods that remained are truly subhuman and only have ill will towards anyone with a fraction of a conscience. 4chan is now as bad as people described it 15 years ago.
