The gods are the ideal that you devote yourself to become, but still are bound by fate and this world and aren't the ultimate creators. You see this in stories with Zeus being tricked by the Sisters or Odin trying to rewrite the fate of Ragnarok through magick but eventually having his actions be the ones to cause Ragnarok.
The Bible/Abrahamic God cannot be likened to this as God is beyond/the orchestrator of Fate and comments directly on the pagans.
