Not gonna lie 1984 doesnt even sound that bad, they literally got casinoes and alcohol there so the people there aren't even that poor like in real life (this includes all peoples outside of Europe and North America as well). I work as a blue collar and I spend most of my salary on food and wouldn't even be able to save up enough money for something so expensive like alcohol unless I genuinely just make it my life's only goal and not some kind of secondary free-time activity. and I live under capitalism (I live in russia and im using a VPN). so as long as you're not breaking any laws the ingsoc party just lets you live a normal life. Maybe a good one even. At this point they don't even seem so bad maybe they just know that people on average are too retarded to be in control of themselves properly and they will most likely end up voting for some satanic pedophile eating kids on a private island who will make their life as bad as it can ever get. so all that surveillance the party got and those cameras everywhere are just necessary needs to protect its own citizens from themselves
