you're the only orthodox I know of (online) that is a noticerTM and a believer, what are you doing today?
btw what do you think of Jay Dyer? the only people criticizing him aren't that… theologically sound. just search up Noah Jefferson's opinion of "Dyerdoxy", and read his substack after that. I'll let you be the judge of that geg

Dyer is only useful for Orthodox peepos and isn't useful for converts because he's very aggressive with his argumentative style and follows the sam phronema of Saint Nicetas of Novgorod, where he is exceptionally knowledgable in the history, books, and knowing of the fathers/gospels but is very agitatable.
<
He's a layman like us so he isn't in any administrative position but as a general follow of advice you should be more /calm/ and not follow his spiritual disposition

 â„–2924754[Quote]

i'm just making an observation because i watched that new harmony vid. Pointless arguing over books rather than listening to your elders about how to grow in the faith is how devil decieved st. nicetas of novgorod

 â„–2924768[Quote]

I'm also technically Orthodox but I'm admittedly lapsed

 â„–2924775[Quote]

>>2924754
Oh yeah, I didn't watch it yet. harmony is goated.
makes sense honestly. debaters very often know how to refute the other side, but aren't firm in their own position. I'm not saying Jay is, but you can see a pattern with like Shamoun etc.

>what are you doing today?
I had work today, but now I'm home
>btw what do you think of Jay Dyer?
From what I've heard of him, I can't say I disagree on any of the content of what he says, but I really think the manner with which he presents himself is in error. He's very brash and rude, which can be entertaining, but I don't think its helpful in converting or convincing people on Orthodoxy. When people come to Orthodoxy, they are looking for something "foreign", like a refuge from modern culture. So when you are presenting Orthodoxy with the same old worldly brashness with which any other debater would present any other worldview, it does the faith a disservice.
>you're the only orthodox I know of (online) that is a noticerTM and a believer,
I'm a bit disappointed in myself over this, frankly. I assume you are referring to Jews when you mention nooooticing, so I'd like to clarify that while I acknowledge that there is an over-representation of Jews in positions of power and that Judaism as a religion is wicked, I think hating Jews is very unhealthy. One ought to love all men as Christ does. I think I've been letting myself get too "chuddy" lately. I think I'm at my best when I'm a bit more calm and a more productive contributor to conversation. I'd also like to make some more videos rather than just posting here.
>>2924656
>sorry for answering for minnesotan but xe isn't baptized yet and I am
This is true, so take anything I say on the Faith with a grain of salt

 â„–2924848[Quote]

why does being baptized mean anything in terms of knowledge

 â„–2924852[Quote]

>>2924843

Do not take me for more learned than you are just because I have received the faith and the sacraments, God in his wisdom can take away my faculties or grant them to someone else who is Younger or Older in the faith than I.

 â„–2924857[Quote]

>>2924848
In the Orthodox Church you have to complete Catechesis before you can be Baptized

I don't think knowing about the Jews and their way of subverting society is inherently bad. you could get paranoid because
>MUH CIA AND MOSSAD ARE GANGSTALKING ME
but that doesn't have to be the case. many of these things might even push us towards God by realizing that this world is full of trash.
oh and I don't like the blind rage like TND TKD and the rest, see picrel

 â„–2924866[Quote]

>>2924857
very strange, I've seen no such thing. you could instantly get baptized

 â„–2924868[Quote]

>>2924862

a different nous is required to understand separate things, Holy scripture is one of the premier examples of this poonerbvbv. Look at the division between authority & the schisms in Christianity between it. Understanding is not the whole story

 â„–2924869[Quote]

>>2924843
I remember my prot days where I went on to debate with everybody, you make a good point

 â„–2924871[Quote]

>>2924862
It's still better for me to preface that I am not as knowledgable as most. It's good to be very cautious to not fall into prelest.
>>2924866

 â„–2924872[Quote]

>>2924868
g25fag is NOT fucking orthodox

 â„–2924873[Quote]

>>2924871
yeah, cradle church, converting is unheard of, so there isn't any program for converts

 â„–2924874[Quote]

>>2924866

Catechesis is necessary as a rite for baptism because it comes from the practices in the Didache, that the Apostles gave to the church. Now of course there are outliers like St. Mary of Egypt but those are extremely special cases in where God set her as an example out of the world to be a recluse and to become holier than much of us.

 â„–2924879[Quote]

>>2924874
the priest said it was used in early Christianity where many were converts, but nowadays I can read books and search questions online
………

 â„–2924884[Quote]

>>2924879

hmmm that doesn't sound right, What Orthodox church is it euromutt? You need to be wary about schismatics as there are some Orthodox/Orientals that claim to be Orthodox but aren't in communion with the others

 â„–2924887[Quote]

>>2924884
don't you worry, it's not schismatic. It's the SOC

 â„–2924890[Quote]

>>2924873
Oh, I see. That's unfortunate.
>>2924874
There's really exceptions for everything. A convert may also receive an emergency baptism without catechesis if they are in poor health and expected to die soon.
>>2924879
Well I suppose it's understandable that a Church with a mostly cradle-Orthodox parish and without the proper resources may be a bit more lenient.

 â„–2924903[Quote]

>>2924887

Huh, strange for Serbs to do that
<
IDK dude if you're really fervent about being baptized into the faith (Because surely you must know that only the baptized can receive communion as they're the members of Christ's body) Maybe you can see if there's any Monastery's near you, IK there's a lot in England and some in Ireland/Scotland but i'm not really sure where you are

 â„–2924911[Quote]

>>2924903
there's a metric ton of monasteries so I'll be good
yeah I know about Communion. I even hesitated to eat the antidoron but my priest allowed it so 'sallgood

 â„–2924912[Quote]

>>2924890

As it was with the thief on the Cross and the promise Christ made to him
<
However I do not think this fellow is in poor health and is expected to die soon, it would be much more fruitful for him to be learned in the faith and what Christ and his Church wants

 â„–2924916[Quote]

>>2924911

antidoron is 100% fine to eat you're good, the blessed bread is for everyone
<
but yeah you should go to one of them if there is no catechism service in the church, maybe ask your spiritual father

 â„–2924917[Quote]

>>2924912
I'm not dying thank you very much
what and who would I ask in the monastery?

 â„–2924922[Quote]

I don't think I could ask a random monk
>hey I'd like to become Orthodox o algo

 â„–2924924[Quote]

>>2924917

nowadays probably e-mail to arrange things, and state that your intent is for catechesis and that you're new to the faith and give them a decent background on who you are and why you would like to convert

 â„–2924933[Quote]

>>2924924
funny thing is that I emailed a notable monastery. they themselves say that there's no known catechumenate programs in the country. what they suggest is close contact with a priest and socializing with parishioners.
I'm not known for being social so I'll have to work on that

 â„–2924943[Quote]

>>2924678
I skimmed the first article you linked here. While I agree with some of his criticisms of "Orthobro" culture, I think describing it as a "parasite" on the Church is incredibly unfair. I think the Church would do well to rein in some of the more controversial figures that are currently representing Orthodoxy online, but a lot of people make it out to be worse than it really is.

 â„–2924947[Quote]

>>2924933

oyyy my Goddddd (No disrespect nor in vain sayings)
<
I don't know bro maybe you should see if you could get in touch with an elder at a monastery to see if he can instruct you in the ways, I highly doubt it's country-wide except if you're in some nophono place like basque or luxembourg

Maybe you should email a couple of monasteries to see if they give you the same answer, some might have a catechesis program just not listed. Even if they don't you should get advice from a spiritual father
