Because people want to make props with blender and write scripts but they don't want to do the actual painful work of game design in working with the hard code of engines, that's why Clauswitz is old enough to drink and COD still uses the engine that the first FPS used back in the last millennium. Also games are so complex they're 100+ GB compared to games like Skyrim or the older total wars that were a tenth of that size.
