Crazy how the Han Chinese are the only people to develop a complex civilization entirely on their own and have it endure for over 5,000 years. Western, Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Persian civilizations all interacted heavily with each other. The Indus River Valley civilization -acked and the Aztecs and Incas got instakilled by the Spanish.

5000 years is a stretch

There's at least 3700 years of recorded history, 4,000 years counting the Xia. There's archeological evidence of a complex civilization in China for easily 5,000 years.

i will accept 3700 years

 β„–2698695[Quote]

but still it's a pretty long stretch saying it has endured when it has changed so much. at what point does it become a new thing? ship of theseus and all that

Fair point but the Shang dynasty has shaped Chinese conceptions of their history and values so much it's hard to ignore its influence.

sure but you could say that about india. doesn't matter in the end though since this historical kanging is irrelevant compared to the present kanging of their manufacturing prowess that mogs the rest of the world

The Spanish had a significant assistance from their civilization's complete lack of immunity to the Spaniard's sniffles, which literally caused upwards of 100% fatality in some villages. The Spanish and Europeans certainly would've conquered the Americas but the funny thing is they didn't really even need to. I was just reading a story from New York state where a trapper came upon the equivalent of a Cherokee, only to find a single toddler clinging to life by chewing on tanning hides and old moccasins.

It would've been interesting to see how the Americas would've progressed without Europe, especially the Incas. They didn't really have a writing system, only cords they'd use as record keeping tools.

I dont doubt this from what ive heard the Han are facing alot of the same issues as White chuds in the west, namely forced erasure by the government.

 β„–2698782[Quote]

Recently the government has been warming up to Han culture but I agree that the current milieu in China is strongly against traditional culture

 β„–2698790[Quote]

>>2698783
By the Han dynasty the backbones of Chinese civilization had been formed, such as Confucianism, Daoism, hanzi and many classical works of literature. It's true that Chinese culture would change because of outside influences (mainly Buddhism) but the civilization had already been created.
