Much is said about the capitalist system either imploding under its contradictions or overcoming them in a kind of metamorphosis where technology will resolve its inefficiency and permanently reduce the individual to a cog in the machine - the premise isn't wrong, but the first idea of implosion is becoming increasingly distant.

Everything that preceded the fall of empires and systems came from an elite with sufficient symbolic, social, economic, and cultural capital to compete for space: be it Rome and Christianity, feudalism and Protestantism + mercantilism, industrial capitalism and socialism.

However, that's not what we see in modernity. We see a dead left, a puppet of the system; religion, even while ascending, is still corrupt; and a Generation Z without capital that, even while overthrowing shithole governments, is either being used as a tool for color revolutions like in Iran or resigned to making memes while demanding facial verification for everything.

So what remains is the billionaire technocratic elite, the bourgeois state allied with corporations, and the legion of techbros who profess, with a sense of faith, that technology will solve the world's problems.

Perhaps this scenario would only change if Epstein's files were leaked, as it involves the entire technocratic elite that governs the world. And what kills the elite most is not bullets or guillotines, but their decadence, just as the fall of Rome did. But I think that's unlikely, given that Trump and billionaires would burn the world to protect themselves.
