I'm guessing the narrative that everything is on the verge of collapse is somewhat exaggerated. I'd imagine they intend to hold the threat of either an economic collapse or third World War over our heads and infinitum, even if things are actually relatively stable behind the scenes. That being said, things will certainly get worse.
