30 years ago, China wasn't seen as a serious nation and only known for its sweatshops and censorship. Now China has the largest GDP, with a huge industry and also a huge focus on technological research like AI. This is more impressive when you realize that modern China went through foreign rule from the nomads, century of humiliation, revolutions, warlord era, Japanese occupations, Mao's rule, famines, etc. They became poorer than even African nations and India. Their transformation wasn't slow, as it all began since the 1970s.

So how come India, despite also being colonized and partitioned, couldn't have followed the same route? Why are they still so poor and underdeveloped? If we claim it's IQ and if IQ is genetic, then the average Chinese person in the 1940s would have had a low IQ too, yet IQ alone didn't stop development. What gives?
