I dislike Japanese culture. It's a radically atomized, isolating culture, it's concept of work is unhealthy and spiritually poisonous, and it's view of sexuality and pleasure is odious. These are among many more issues I have with Japan. They are aspects of its society that mirror the West, but I believe Japan experiences these things more intensely. < Despite this, I do have an admiration for some Japanese art. I think the reason for this is that Japanese art functions outside and in spite of Japanese culture, while Western art traditionally functions inside Western culture. What I mean is that much of Japanese art concerns and is in critique of the ills of Japanese culture, at least the variety that I enjoy. It deals with themes of loneliness, frustration, maturation, technological fatigue, and other similar things. Notice that these aren't just aspects of the human condition, they are things inflicted upon the people by Japanese culture. So, the art I'm talking about is often a legitimate critique of modern Japanese culture. It is, thus, made for the betterment of the consumer of the art.< This is different modern from Western art. It is often a critique of traditional Western culture, which is illegitimate, as Western Tradition is ontologically superior to modernity.< It is also different from traditional Western art, which was made both out of love for the West, and for its betterment. So, like Japanese art, it is made for the betterment of the consumer.

I dislike how eastern culture and media (Japanese, Korean)are put on a pedestal, as if it is better than the west's, when it is literally no different, if not worse in some regards, in terms of being degenerate.

In which time period are you comparing the cultures? I think you might be comparing post-1945 Jap culture with pre-1800 western culture which doesnt make a lot of sense.

>>2425273 My main point here isn't the comparison, I'm just using the comparison to try and explain my point better.

>>2425271 It might be worse in some regards but in most, imo, it is less degenerated. I use degenerated, because the culture itself has changed for the worse.

Japanese art is overrated. There are aspects I like about Jap society and their art isn't one of them.

>>2425263 (OP) Personally I believe Japanese art pre-1945 has little of merit. Much of it, including painting, calligraphy, bonsai, ceramics and poetry, was attempting to imitating Chinese art. These efforts were for the most part unsuccessful because the Japs had to rely on lower quality imports of woodblocks. There's also a touch more of degeneracy.
Post 1945 Japan produced some decent art. Mishima is an example of a creative novelist. You're definitely right about the critique of Japanese culture, but I don't think it's that widespread. Anime and hentai are much easier to come across.

Do you remember the Japanese Christian Daimyo/Warlord that refused to accept to crusade against japan? If he saw what is happening today he would've accepted the popes offer to crusade against Japan

>>2425459 Japanese culture breeds escapism, so a lot of anime is, but there is also Japanese art which serves specifically as a caution against escapism, which is another example of what I'm talking about.
